I want to be completely honest here. I never read the first two books in the series. Oh my god. Do I wish that I did? Heck yeah. I mean at first, I was totally confused because I had no clue who the perspective was coming from and why they were imprisoned. But you know, you roll with it because it's interesting. This person who is caged in is kind of bad ass and smart. I think when I was halfway through my copy from the publisher is when I had to shop around for the first two books in the series. I am kind of disappointed that this series didn't seem to have the presence in the public that I felt it deserved. I feel like this should have already been on my radar.

I think this is a great crime solving book for teens and up to read. There are masterminds behind masterminds it seems in this series. That really has made me feel like I have missed out on not reading the first two books. Mori is a strong, smart, and maybe a little crazy. She uses her own brilliance and fierce determination to accomplish her goals. I am not sure if I would call her a role model, but I would definitely agree with aspects of her being admirable.

I feel like Lock is a key player in this book but in the background. Always there but not. This is mostly a result of the things that have happened in the previous books. I wish that I could have gotten to know his character some more but I was able to get a good feel for his character. I think that this series could still live on with the kind of person Lock is. That would be pretty cool to read.

If this had been the first book in the series I would have said that it shows promise of a good series and a future with awesome characters. It's the end of the series according to Amazon's blurb, but I am bummed out because I would really be ok for it to continue. I have to read the whole series to get a full feeling for the series as a whole. If I were my pre-teen self, this is a book that I would absolutely enjoy and get hooked into.

Disorderly Conduct by Tessa Bailey 3 ✭

Title: Disorderly Conduct
Author: Tessa Bailey
Series: The Academy
Genre: Romance
Publish Date: August 29, 2017
Pages: 354
Ages: 18 +

Rating: ✭✭✭

I read the first and second book backwards. It didn't really change much for my perspective of how much I like Tessa Bailey's writing and her characters. I think she does an excellent job of writing characters who develop relationships that feel completely natural. It's not just trying to mash two archetypes together and turn out a book.

This book was a fun ride. I wouldn't call it the best. I loved the second book in the series a he'll of a lot more. It had characters that develop and grow through the story and they actually change. While Disorderly Conduct makes you think they may have grown and they really don't they just stumble into the realization they've been ignorant and immature. I guess I just wasn't super into this one as the others. I delayed on writing my reviews because of the thanksgiving holiday time frame and it really gave me a better idea of how I felt.

Ever comes from a line of family with this really weird idea that they are mistresses who should just use men for sex and have no emotional entanglements. Ok so your mom having a sex talk is one thing but having your mom say just bone that's it... weird. generations go one by accident it seems. However, Ever is an interesting person. She is nice, she is stable in her career, she has a hood sense of humor and determination. I liked her, just not this weird background.

Charlie is an obsessive stalker, but it's written in a way you want to almost forgive him. I guess the theme for this book could be determination. He was determined to have Ever. Charlie not only comes across as a stalker but also like an immature school boy. He's like running around town sabotaging Ever' s dates and stuff.

So both Ever and Charlie are like immature kids who are products of their upbringing. Neither have a clue what a relationship is or how to approach it. So obviously there with be misunderstandings, conflicts, devastation, betrayal, swooning, yada yada. Not a bad book at all. I liked it.

Finally...

Finally, my little family seems to have gotten into a routine. We moved from the "Keystone State" recently which had its ups and downs. For example, my family hated it, because I had to leave their area. My husband and I have moved an eight-hour drive away from them. It sucks definitely and I do sympathize. However, with my dad making me move constantly growing up, I don't feel as upset. I feel bad that my kids won't have the closeness that I see my cousins have with my grandparents. I feel bad for the loss of them being around when I need them. But they are not gone completely.

I think about me and being so far away from family that I don't even know anything about my cousins, and I totally get it. See, my dad was in the Navy. Yes, we did move a lot, not as much as some but just enough to make my teenage years hell. And my relocation from duty station to station didn't stop there no. My husband had joined the Marine Corps and right after I was finally on my own from my parents relocating here and there, then it continued. So basically my whole life up til my mid 20's was moving around leaving people behind, and trying to beat the pain and sadness from losing everything you had built for "X" amount of years. So when I say finally, I don't mean finally forever. Nope, because I know that things are going to change soon enough, and to not be comfortable just yet.

We got to North Carolina not too long ago. The kids are settling in really well, especially with seeing two of their uncles and grandmother every day. I am still getting use to trying to cook for three more people on top of our little family of four. I cook because I feel like I am contributing. Living here with them is working out really well and actually better than I thought. We are starting to save up money, and have even paid off some debt. OH SNAP! I swear it's like each time a bill disappears, it feels like a 10 lb weight is lifted off my chest. We are still having some issues with health insurance but his previous job is all to blame for that. Fun times... But we have all the address changes, the license, some doctors for me because I had some issues right after we moved down here, and even the car stuff has been taken care of.

Currently, I am spending everyday half in shock at how rotten my own kids have gotten. I have tried so many methods and it seems like it just makes it worse for each thing. Here's to hoping they grow out of it. I have gotten back into reading because let's face it, I've been a little busy. I had to pack a house, and unpack just enough to be able to live out of. I had missed reading because it helps me mentally get away and not have mommy breakdowns. Yep, laying it out there. So I'm getting to put a dent into some of my collection here. So if you read this ( my maybe one day reader ) make a note to keep an eye for more book reviews. Ha!

My husband is no longer in training for his new job and now actually on his set schedule for what his working is going to be looking like. That is nights from 6 pm to 6 am. The plus side is that he only works Friday to Sunday. For him it sounds like a great opportunity to work for, an amazing company setting, and good pay with overtime if he wants it. Here come Holidays, Here come Holidays, right after that raise.... that came out like jingle bells in my head.

So finally it feels like since I got pregnant with my daughter that things are starting to come together. The pieces are falling into place like someone who isn't me is doing this life puzzle. I guess you could say my husband is doing this life puzzle... Since I just stay at home with the kids.

Misadventures on the Night Shift by Lauren Rowe 5 ✭

Title: Misadventures on the Night Shift
Author: Lauren Rowe
Series:  Misadventures
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Erotica
Publish Date: November 7, 2017
Pages: 280
Ages: 18 +

Rating: ✭✭✭

Misadventures on the Night Shift is a total rockstar style read. Full of heart melting song lyrics and plenty of hot kinks to keep you tied to the story. It's a pretty short book but it feels full of so much. I love how this book made me feel guilty enough for reading a smoking hot kinky scene but not regretting it at all, just like Abby. I loved how the end was written. It was brilliantly leading you on, leaving you on an edge.

Abby is just trying to get by each day and not get into any trouble. She works a boring job at a hotel and goes to her boring law school classes. She gets up and rinse & repeat on her boring little life, completely knowing that this isn't at all where she wants her life to be. She feels trapped in a life she doesn't want by her family from consequences are previous indiscretions.

Lucas is a rock star who has been around for a decade now and has been trapped in a music contract that has left him feeling trapped and drowning. He has to complete his fourth album and then he will be released from the corporate hold. However, he has writer's block and he can't be free until he produces a new single similar to the song that made him famous, to begin with.

Things change when Abby basically cusses out Lucas for being a douche to her. That fierce attitude gave his inspiration for music and he wanted her. Lucas wanted her to himself and wanted her as his muse. This leads to a kinky roleplay proposition and a new heartbreak song he needs to free himself.

The Real Thing by Melissa Foster 4 ✭

Title: The Real Thing
Author: Melissa Foster
Series: Sugar Lake
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publish Date: September 5, 2017
Pages: 286
Ages: 18 +

Rating: ✭✭✭✭

The Real Thing was a "sweet" story. Haha... lame pun that anyone who read the back of the book can come up with. Really those this book was smoking hot. With some unexpected heart melting romance. Zane comes across as a playboy actor and he is just is very confident in that sexy way. Willow is like the girl we all want to be in our early twenties. She is confident in herself with her job and around her friends and family of the town. She is amusing, and realistic. Her problem is that she has always been in love with her first love, its always there and hard to forget. So when Zane, who has been her best friend for years, propositions her with a crazy plan for his reputation... (but is it...)

Melissa Foster has created some very good characters with this book. I would say that it was a great solo book even, but I am more excited that it is part of a series. The whole family, that could use some hooking up, are full of very different characters that have different personalities, but seem loveable that you want to see the whole gangs stories unfold.

Ride the Storm by Karen Chance 4 ✭

Title: Ride the Storm
Author: Karen Chance
Series: Cassie Palmer
Genre: Paranormal & Urban Fantasy, Romance
Publish Date: April 7, 2017
Pages: 606
Ages: 18 +

Rating: ✭✭✭

I have been reading this series for years and what keeps me going is how Karen Chance solves the problem. It's so unique, it's things I wouldn't have dreamed of.  Maybe that's my lack of creativity, who knows, but its what keeps me coming back for more with this series.

Cassie has gone through a lot in this series and this book really shows her individual growth an individual with multiple talents. She is still getting chased all over but the Pythias that think that she is a rogue, she is still trying to save Pritkin, and she is finally learning key bits of information from Mircea.

I would have rated this book higher but it was slow in the beginning. I jumped from one thing to another and it was very chaotic. I feel like it was very important for Cassie to have all these little battles pile up on top of each other for the story to progress the way it did. But, there was a lot of pages where Cassie was drained or dead tired. So that's what the dull aspect to the book was, but again it was very important to her growth.
