So I am really not sure what to rate this one. I am really not. I have read 2 series by Richelle Mead and I have really loved them. I couldn't get into the one with the little alchemist even though I enjoyed the vampire academy series.

I did borrow an audiobook version of the story and while I listened I felt like I was getting a story of beginning settlements in America. But the names of countries were changed. I guess that's the part that I felt wasn't necessary. If you are going write a period piece that sounds historically like a specific situation, then say that. Call a spade a spade, ya know. It just felt like reading/listening to a great American settlement story and then trying to sound a little more trendy so like let's give the places some new names, but the same accents you would anyways.

The characters are worth the read at least. You have your strong female lead, Adelaide, who expresses her opinions and stands up for others. The men are written pretty well with devious and intelligent sides. Adelaide's friends are good side characters that provide an extra mysteriousness and humor. So you have a cast of characters that bring a lot to the book. You even get this common lackey type of character found in a lot of movies. You know the one that less intelligent and is always nasty with words. I really would go into the characters more, but that's the whole story really and don't want to spoiler it. The whole story is basically the interaction of Adelaide, Cedric, her friends, and the young governor once she's in America, I mean Adoria.

If I am not mistaken the other books in the series are about Adelaide's two best friends that she met in the finishing school she didn’t need. The second book is about Mira who is looked down upon because she is a refugee trying her best to get her freedom. And the third and final book is the other best friend in the trio, Tamsin's story. From what I see it almost looks like it may take place simultaneously as the first book. So these aren't your typical chronological romance series, nope these sound like they are different perspectives of the same events. This idea really makes me interested in the series. Adelaide's book was just cut and dry and basic. But there were seems where Tamsin was lost at sea, and then maybe lost at sea again. And Mira is mysterious and always running off, or hidden somewhere. So there really is a possibility for the story to really get me into it. I just don't know if this intro to the world and people were enough to pull me in.

I'm still packing and preparing for the move. So here's another audiobook review.

Marissa Meyer has really written a fantastic retelling of a childhood classic. I like it because it isn't like the usual retellings that really don't feel like a retelling. This actually does retell the story a different way, in its own way, that's a little dark and still sweet. Cinder had some good humor written into it as well that makes it feel alive and not just a story on a page. The narrator was good in this one. Although I did doze off in a couple chapters that were really descriptive. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, I  just have to wait until its available for me to borrow from my local library. 

Cinder herself is fun for me to read. She has a smart ass side to her and could tell it like it is which is fun to read. But she also has a sweet caring side to her. Her family is mostly set up like the typical Cinderella story except she does have one sister who isn't completely horrible to her. Cinder doesn't have forest friends, or dwarves, or enchanted furniture as friends. Nope, she has an android for a friend who has this bizarre personality chip that makes it seem like she is a boy-crazy teenage girl. Her stepmother is really awful to her, but other than that you don't know anything else about her.

The events through the book keep changing Cinder's perspective of herself over and over. She starts the book out as a cyborg, half robot half human creation, to being something completely else. Cyborgs are something no people like at all. And when I say no people I mean the human's on earth and the Lunars on planet Luna, which is like the moon. Lunars are different because their time on the moon has changed the people there that now they have powers. Powers like mind control. They can manipulate the way that people think or what they think about doing. The people on Earth are not big fans of Lunars, to say the least. We value our freedom, and on planet Luna there is none.

There are a lot of events that may possibly happen in the future that makes me want to continue the series. A prison break, maybe a war, maybe overthrowing a queen, maybe more love?

Yes, it has been a little bit since a post and I am so sorry for that. It has been busy with kids birthdays, and best friends visiting from out of state. It's going to keep being busy because we finally have a house. We are in the final stages of buying our first house. So I decided that I am going to try and borrow a few audiobooks to listen and pack. So far I have finished one book and I'm like a third into another. We get the keys to our house on July 25th, so since today is the 15th, I have less than 10 days to be done packing so we can load up a truck. I really wish I could dig into a few more ARC's I have waiting but I'm going to have to wait. 

To the Review!

I want to start off by informing you that I am totally a Jeaniene Frost fangirl. I really do enjoy her books a lot and I can't put my finger on the exact reason why I just overall love her writing and her characters. The narrator for this audiobook did an amazing job. She was able to put the feelings into her voice so good that it blew me away. It has been a while since I have listened to an audiobook too so maybe I didn't pay attention to those things before. I don't know.

This is the finale to the Night Prince series in the Night Huntress World. These books featured Vlad and Leila and their romance. Over the four total books, you get to see Leila transform into a strong badass woman. I suspect Leila and Cat (The OG Jeaniene Frost badass chick) will be best friends in no time. Vlad has also changed a little but really he is always angry and ready to kill anyone in an instant. This definitely doesn't change in this book as they search for a way to remove the spell that is linking Leila's life to Vlad's nephew. Mircea has also been trying to kill Leila and is Vlad's enemy. With Vlad's tendency to kill first ask later, this has forced Vlad to have a little patience. 

This really does finish off the series good. I feel like it is a good ending and a good HEA. You see just how far Vlad is willing to go to save his wife. It also completely sets you up for Ian's book coming this fall. So I would read this for sure just so that you can see the events that lead into Ian's book properly. Will I be getting Ian's book? Yes, I already pre-ordered it because I have wanted Ian to have his own book forever. Fangirl...

The Brightest Embers by Jeaniene Frost 3 ✭

I borrowed The Brightest Embers from my local library. Jeaniene Frost is one of my favorite authors. So when I realized that there was a shorter wait list, I jumped on and grabbed a copy. This was the finale in the A Broken Destiny series. I always like Jeaniene Frost's writing because there is always something about her main character that is relatable to me. Whether it's the smartass attitude or the protective feelings for loved ones. It's just always something that gets me. This series is no different but I feel like this last book was a little less like that. I feel like I didn't have that strong familiarity with the characters like they didn't stay with me long term. That makes me sad. The flipside to that is a very well written and planned out ending. So for me with its a give and take situation. 

There was a lot of the characters bouncing from location to location while they search for the final holy weapon. There was a major revelation or two depending on your feelings for Adrian. Personally, Adrian isn't one of my favorite guys in a book, like he would be a really good friend. I didn't fall in love with him as a character. And the ways he changes over the book weren't really the main focus but just side frill. She goes through so much in the books as a person. With Adrian and Ivy's link, she is starting to lie more, and she is abandoning her destiny since his evil is leaking through to her. So she had to deal with that. She has to deal with Andrian's betrayals and all the demons hunting them. She has to grow and deal with her destiny. Just like we can never fully guide someone down the right path, they have to do it on their own. One of the reveals I do want to share an opinion on and it will be at the bottom of the post. This way if you don't want to see spoilers, you don't have to.

All in all, I feel like this was a good solid book. It was a solid finale for this trilogy with everything tying of neatly. I feel like you get all the answers and you want. I enjoyed the journey of the series and I'm bummed it's the end.

I don't usually write spoilers in my post because I have zero restraint. So I always read peoples spoiler posts and regret it later. I tried to not make it labeled at the top to make it a big eye grab thing. You know, sneaky like you have to actually look into the post to find out there may be spoilers. Anyways...So Ivy is with child. I'm trying to not use the big p-word that would catch someones attention as they scrolled by. Now the thing is Adrain was supposed to have a vasectomy. Here's my thought: The manna they use to heal everything, at some point, healed everything for him. There isn't any mention about the thoughts on how this could have happened, but that's just what I think.
